Encryption News
The change of United States encryption export policy in January 2000 allows IDS Software to deliver full strength cryptography technologies to licensed IDS Server customers outside of U.S. and Canada. This includes 128-bit Blowfish, 56-bit DES and 112-bit Triple DES ciphers and 2048-bit RSA and ElGamal digital signatures. It also marks the end of the Export version of IDS Server.

Note: The evaluation time limit is enforced by the software itself. If you attempt to run the IDS Server after the evaluation period expired, it will only function normally for 10 minutes. However, you can apply for an evaluation extension by contacting IDS Software at .

IDS Server User's Guide (Rev. 4.2.0) is already included in all evaluations. It is posted here for the convenience of those who like to do technical reviews before downloading the trial software. The User's Guide is a Microsoft Word document compressed using WinZip.

Preferred Database Drivers

The following is a list of database systems and their preferred connectivity methods and drivers for IDS Server. For ODBC drivers, you can check the driver versions by running Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Data Source (ODBC) and select the ODBC Drivers tab.

PostgreSQL, MySQL for Linux/UNIX and Win32
unixODBC (current stable release is 2.2.6) offers a comprehensive set of ODBC interfaces for most open source databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL and miniSQL.  It also offers a thread safe DriverManager and GUI setup tools.
Microsoft Access, dBase, Paradox
Microsoft Jet Service Pack 8, available for Windows 2003/2000/XP/NT and Windows 9x/Me, contains the latest ODBC drivers for these databases.  You should also upgrade Microsoft Data Access Components to version 2.8 or newer.
Microsoft Visual FoxPro
Microsoft Visual FoxPro 8.0 Service Pack 1 includes the latest Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro, which is the preferred IDS Server interface for Visual FoxPro instead of the FoxPro ODBC Driver.
Microsoft SQL Server 7 and 2000, Oracle 7.3, Oracle 8i, Oracle 9i
It is recommended to connect to these databases using the corresponding IDS Server native database interfaces instead of their ODBC drivers, because the native interfaces offer better performance and more features.  Refer to Section 1.8 of the IDS Server User's Guide for details.
Microsoft SQL Server 6.x
Microsoft Data Access Components v2.5 SP3. This upgrade pack, available for Windows NT/2000 and Windows 9x/Me, contains the latest ODBC Driver Manager and stable ODBC drivers for this database.
IBM Informix
INFORMIX® Client SDK™ 2.81 is an ODBC compatible software package to allow applications like IDS Server to connect to Informix servers.
